Default area near nice golf courses

We are looking to move retire in NC from southern california. Can you suggest a great retirement area near nice golf courses? Is it humid everywhere? Does it snow much? What areas are better?

Pinehurst is the golf mecca of NC, with an abundance of great courses. The village of Pinehurst is beautiful - very upscale. Southern Pines, which is the adjacent town, is equally beautiful (one of the prettiest downtowns in all of NC!), but more laid back with a greater mix of ages. The entire area is highly desirable to live in, and there are a variety of neighborhoods and amenities to choose from.
We have been in NC for over 20 years now, and have found that it is humid pretty much everywhere with the exception of the mountains. They are a bit less humid than the rest of the state, but definitely more humid than the mountain areas of CA.
Snow is infrequent in most parts of NC, though the mountains would get more than anywhere else if it comes at all.

Mari girl is correct: This area (Pinehurst/Southern Pines/Aberdeen) is loaded with golf courses: 42 at last count. But drive 5 minutes from most courses and you'll see farms:
Horse farms, strawberry farms, burro farms, dairy farms, etc. Drive 5 minutes in the other direction and there is Best Buy, Belks, Starbucks, Chiles, etc.
And yes, it is hot and humid. Our 1st year here (1992) we thought we made a huge mistake (coming from NY state). But, it soon became tolerable. We still have our "days" when only "mad dogs and Englishmen" etc. but they are in just about every state.
No Freeway traffic. No overpriced homes (and the taxes that go with it). 2 and 1/2 hours to the beaches. 3 and 1/2 hours to the mtns. 1:10 to Raleigh 2:30 to Charlotte.
Excellent hospital, good doctors, lots of golf courses to choose from.

For a more moderate climate, there are plenty of golf courses & golfing communities in the Asheville-Hendersonville area too and more presently under construction.
