The building with the big spear and glass front (RBC building) is almost finished. The whole structure is up and I believe they are just finishing up the exterior finishing the top 10-15 floors where the condos will be. With the spear addition a few weeks ago it just became the tallest building in Raleigh, although once the solei center is built at Crabtree by 2010 (4-5 miles from downtown) that will be the new tallest building. There are also other buildings going up as we speak. The new convention center (bottom center of photo is opening in a few months and within a couple of years our skyline will be much improved. It still won't be what Charlotte's is, but will be much improved and on our way to what Raleigh should be already.

I'd definitely say that right now Winton-Salem still has the #2 skyline behind Charlotte. Very impressive when travelling east on I-40.

Definitely Raleigh without question.

In comparison to Charlotte, Raleigh may not have as many residents DT (7000 probably a lot more now vs 13000); or employees (42,000 vs 80,000), however so far as nightlife is concerned it's probably the best in NC. Raleigh also has more retail (1.5 mill sqft vs 1 million sqft). I also so love the organic grit Raleigh possesses, and the Mid Atlantic vibe of the whole city.

Raleigh's linear and short downtown is hard to capture with pictures, but I definitely prefer it picturesque wise next to Charlotte.

I love the broad view facing DT Raleigh at the corner of Glenwood Ave and Peace Street. You can really see the depth and vastness of Raleigh's DT.
