I am going NUTS trying to find a place to move to from Redondo Beach, CA...Originally from Jersey, I've been here for 14 years. My husband and I don't own a house...the least expensive place we can find is about $850,000- that's for a 4 bedrm townhome!!!NO LAND!
We have 3 kids, 3, 5, 7 and my husband is an avid cyclist- looking for hills. Obviously, we'd miss the beach, so it would be nice to be driving distance...
I'm thinking that Cary, NC, Charlottesville, Va may be nice, or someplace near Annapolis, MD.
We don't have the time or money to travel to all of these places...some advice would be great. Oh yeah..my husband does custom aquariums for a living...maybe you think he'd make NO money in some of these places..any suggestions?
lol, it's interesting that you mention cycling because interestingly enough, the town of Cary recently made "cyclisst lanes" on most of it's roads. I as a motorist find it incredivly irritating because it made the drivers lanes unrealisticly narrow and you can get fined for taking up too much space and overwhelming the cyclist lane; but I'd imagine it would be an avid cyclists dream.
I remember last year when I was scouting the area, I found an article in the paper encouraging residents to give the road bikers a hard time, harass, and basically it was telling them to ignore them on the road. Unless you've ever gotten into cycling, you probably dont know how fun it is and after all, Performance Bike HQ is down there isnt it?
Actually, after reading some reviews on mtbr.com, it seems that there arent many trails/parks in the eastern part of the state that cater to off road biking. Thats a shame but its probably due to the low pop density and the lack of need for parks to escape to when you're surrounded by forest, mountain, and water.
I saw some stuff on maps that were SORBA maintained, anyone know any information on this?
I'm sure we're all going to get the "biking" experience if the price of gas keeps going up.

...might be due to the fact the land is pretty much totally flat, in the eastern part of the state, moreso than those reasons ...but that's just my two cents, I'm not an off road biker.
As for being surrounded by forest, mountain, and water....forest & water=yes.....mountain=NO
Again, in the eastern part of the state, not the slightest chance of seeing a mountain, or even hilly terrain for that matter. It's totally flat.
