Default Family of 8 looking for good weather!!

My husband and I have 6 small children and live in the most NE portion of Ohio. We have lived in Ohio most of our lives and have lived in our home now for 9 years. Our car and van get stuck each year in many feet of snow. Our children our cooped in the house for 6 months throughout the year. So we are looking for a new warmer climate.
We need to be near stores, ours are 45 minutes to the mall and 30 from a grocery store.
North Carolina sounds great through research but would love to hear from someone who lives there.
And we would like to live in an allotment with other young families. We were initially geared toward Texas because the houses are greatly priced, and yet the weather steered us.
Our budget needs to stretch and my husband is looking for a job near a military training base.
Thanks for your input!

All of the state's military bases are in the Coastal Plain Region. Fort Bragg in Fayetteville is the largest.
