King is a fast growing little town just outside of Winston-Salem. Its on average with other NC towns when it comes to the fast food joints, banks, groceries. Its the largest city/town in Stokes County although its not the county seat, that would be Danbury. It has a fairly new high school(built in 99 I believe) which is very nice and is def. the best one in the county, although with all the new development in the area overcrowding is becoming an issue. The population of the town is expected to double by 2010. If you drive through the area you'll see new housing developments sprouting up all over. The area is mostly middle income familes, not a lot of singles for now. Anymore specific questions just let me know, hope this helps a little.

Carolinablue,,,nice name!

I live here and just thought someone could tell me what's so good about it. I am ready to move on,,,,we thought it would be a good place for retirement but people are very clanish. Relatives just aren't enough.

One woman at church ask me if I was related to _____ and when I said yes, she said "I thought you look like her" and never said another word!

We went to another church with my sister and everyone referred to me as ____'s sister,,,never called me by name even though we went there for a couple of months.

My DH was in the Air Force and we moved a lot and we never had any trouble making friends. This is the most snobish little town that I have ever seen.

Yea I can see your point, def. still a small town feel. Most of the elders arent too welcoming to newcomers and if you havent lived there all your life then you are automatically banned from the "in" crowd. Unfortunately this is the case in most small/rural towns like King. Hopefully in the coming future this will change as more and more people move into the area. Sorry for your troubles and I hope everything works out for you and your family.

PS: One thing I do notice about King is there are a lot of stares from total strangers. very odd!

My family has lived here since 1957 and we came to visit a lot but never got to know anyone. I grew up in the Shoals Community just South of Pilot Mountain but left this area when I was 19 yrs old.

There is a lot of new homes being built and folks seem to like the schools,,,I have neices and nephews in all of them. One new development is at Mountain View RD and HGWY 66. I don't know what the price range of those homes will be.

We are thinking of moving to Birmingham, Al because our son, DIL and grandchildren live there. We go to church with them when we visit and folks there are much friendlier. We have only been 4 times but people already call us by name.

I know people don't visit like they use to,,,,,,,but,,,by golly,,,they could be a little friendlier. I am not a complainer but am trying to find something good about living here. We bought a very nice home.

I guess the best think is low crime and quietness, but with the growing, that will change.
