I loved Raleigh when I visited and interviewed for jobs, last April. I brought my daughter and a family member down to explore and found two places close during the week. I was told they open on weekends and during the week only for school events. What about visitors who want to visit their attractions? I'm glad I widened my net and picked Charlotte; I love that Charlotte did offer more in job opportunities, night life, sports events and arts. Now, if we could get Raleigh's rodes, we will be smooth sailing. Picking one over the other is basically a matter of preference.

Thank you for this discussion. Which area would provide more for a family that likes the outdoors, ie. camping, fishing, boating, biking etc? Thanks again.

I think the charlotte area due to it surrounded by so many outdoor a dventure activities

Lake Wylie, Lake Norman, Lake Tillery. Badin Lake, Lake Hickory, Mountain Island Lake.
You are surrounded by numerous mountain chains, Uwharrie, Kings Mountain, Morrow Mountain, Crowders Mountain and the Uwharrie Mountains. There is numerous campgrounds and state ane federal parks.

Raleigh usually gets more snow and cold than Charlotte, which is a major plus for me. Raleigh had a two-foot snowstorm in 2000. Charlotte only has had one foot-plus storm since 2000.

Don't kid yourself. We don't get much snow in Raleigh. About " each in the last 2 years. I think both areas offer many outdoor recreational activities and I would incourage you to visit each area and then decide for yourself. People in the Raleigh area will talk up Raleigh and people in the Charlotte area will talk up Charlotte...it's only natural.

These are public lakes that you can boat, jet ski etc on.
However each lake may have restrictions on swimming usually it restricted to the parks that surround them however this is only restricted to off shore swimming and not restricted to off boat swimming.
