Default any places without HOA's?

My family and I are planning on moving to the Mooresville/Troutman area within six months or so. While searching for homes all we find is newer homes all with HOA's. We would like to purchase a newer home but avoid HOA's. Are there any communites/subdivisions in that area that do not have HOA's? We haven't gotten in touch with a real estate agent yet but hopefully they can give us some insight. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Almost all newer homes, unless you buy a tract of land and build yourself, are going to have HOAs.

However, don't rule out such things as a matter of course. Not all are restrictive, expensive or bad.....you just have to read covenants carefully.
