Yep, but we liked Cherohala better http://www.cherohalaskyway.com/index.html Those roads are two-fers: both in the same part of the country, so a lot of riders do them both on the same day.

Anyone wanting to drive The Dragon - I'd stay away until September. Summer, the road is clogged with riders, especially kids on crotch rockets

Btw, the dam featured in the Harrison Ford movie "The Fugitive" - the Cheoah - is part of the Dragon ride. The ambulance chase scene was filmed near Murphy and Dillsboro

Its notoriety is drawing an increased amount of traffic overall, so I rode it once to say I did, then use my time to explore other twisties. NC / TN / VA abounds with good roads to ride (just ask hapaleeretired about my recommendation of NC80 out of Marion )

Default Videos

I forgot to add ... if you go to the youtube site and do a search on "Deal's Gap", you'll find videos of people doing the road on bike and in car. One fellow mounted a camera on his Mini Cooper, then sped the film up to compress the 17 minute time into 5 minutes *blerf* Kinda made me queasy to watch.

The most entertaining (and it doesn't seem to be found anywhere on the web, now), is killboy's video of a couple of guys on pocketbikes that rode The Dragon. Luckily, I saved a copy to my PC, because it's become kind of legendary

Found it:

I have to wonder if those fellows ended up fathering any kids . Riding with that kind of posture for an extended time would surely do a guy some damage

I have ridden the Dragon a couple of times. It's a very challenging stretch of road. It is world famous and riders come from all over to ride it. It is sort of a rite of passage. Don't ride it on the weekends. The crotchrocket riders make it quite dangerous and the police are trying to patrol it. Just this month a fellow moved to Waynesville and is offering to follow people through the gap and tape their ride from his Gold Wing on which he has mounted a camera.
I agree with Silverwing: There are so many beautiful roads throughout that area! It is the best motorcycling in the country.
P.S. I don't know where you get all those statistics but we really enjoy your posts.
