There are plenty of cruddy pizza places in the triangle but there are good one's too. There is bad pizza in NJ (my home state) too.
Alfredo's in Chapel Hill (university mall) is the best I've found. Their slices are really good and are better than their pies because I don't think they cook their ordered pies as much as their slice pies. Although I do order their pies I just ask for the cheese not to runny. May sound odd to you but I am a foodie and notice minor differences.
Fresh Market - Is kind of like a whole foods. I like the store. Their rotisserie chickens are very good.
Best Bread - Weaver Street in Chapel Hill and Guluhoff's in Durham that sells to Southern Season's in CH. I like bread with a crisp crust. On Friday's Guluhoff's makes a very good Rye bread. They also sell very good Kaiser Rolls.
Deli - Doesn't really exist. But the best sub place I found is the food factory in Cary, the people who own are from NJ. Gulohoff (Durham) makes really nice gourmet style sandwiches. Southern Season's in Chapel Hill makes a pretty good sandwich.
Chinese - Haven't really found any I like. PF Chang's is the only place I'll eat it. Stopped trying to find this a long time ago.
Southern Season's (Chapel Hill) is a good store to find odd gourmet items that are very difficult to find elsewhere. They have a good deli, salads, and cheese selection.
Breakfast - The best place I think is in Hillsborough off on a little side street in downtown that starts with a V I beieve. It is a continental type place with baked goods and is very reasonable. I've also heard the Raleigh Art Museum has a very nice breakfast, but I've never been there.

You should try China Palace at the corner of Garrett Road and University Drive - Durham/Chapel Hill border. It's terrific, I don't bother to go anywhere else now. They have an americanized menu and a traditional menu, which is always a good sign. Definitely reminds me of the stuff I got up north. It's a small place, recently got a great review in the N&O.

Pizza in Randleman
I personally think Capri's Pizza in Randleman is the best pizza around! (And I've eaten pizza in North Carolina, Connecticut, Florida, South Carolina, and Virgina.) Good size slices, nice flavor sauce and crust, very foldable. As a rule, unless it's Capri's....no thank you.

I realize I'm inviting a resounding screech of outrage here, but seriously: foldable pizza? Can someone explain what it is about the folding that makes a pizza good???? Seems to me like it would just make it messier? I freely admit to never having been to NY, never having eaten at a NY-style place, whatever. Just explain the folding; it won't get out of my head.

sort of like a hot pocket! Calzone ... Stromboli ... less loss of topping like using a funnel ...
I am a native from the burbs of Buffalo NY ... and thats why we do it!
