For those who left North Carolina
For those of you who have lived in North Carolina and left:
Where did you live and for how long?
Why did you leave and where did you move to?

My brother and SIL lived in Huntersville since 1994, and left in 2003 to move to Presque Isle, ME because they wanted land for a horse for much less than what they could afford here. They moved from there to Indianapolis, IN about a year ago so he could go back to school. They may now be moving to Columbus, OH for her job.
My mother & father lived in Greensboro since 2001, and moved to Miamisburg, OH at the beginning of this year because his job was transferred there.
My brother has lived in Charlotte since about 1994, but due to a layoff as a result of the mortgage industry, may be moving to Miamisburg to live with mom & dad for a while.
My other brother, who is broke from a lack of business for his company, has applied for jobs around the world, and is actually flying to Peru next week for an interview for a job at the Lima airport.

Lived in Nash County for 8 years
We left b/c of poor economy, poor schools, horrid heat and humidity (don't miss ya!!), not seasonal enough.
Moved to central PA. Love it, love it, love it.

I left to go to college in VA, and I fell in love with the new town, so I decided to stay. For me, it was a case of ennui owing to the fact that I'd grown up in NC. Also, my hometown was very economically depressed, with few job opportunities and absolutely stinkin' public schools. Natives tended to be very close-minded to new ideas or alternate points of view (and I say this as a person who lived in NC for almost my entire life). I still think NC is a nice place to visit, but I wouldn't really want to live there again, unless I were to move closer to the coast where there's more diversity, job opportunities, and activities for a young adult.

Born and raised in NC. Left for grad school in MA. Settled in SC because the NC that I returned to was not the NC that I left. God willing I will return to NC one day so that I can be a Tar Heel dead.
