Smile looking for the best weather in North Carolina

I know this may sound really redundant, but I am looking to move to North Carolina (my husband will be stationed out of Fort Bragg) and want to find a town somewhere around the base (I’m willing to commute up to 45 minutes) that is beautiful, safe, family oriented, with newer homes.

My husband and I would like to stay around the 200,000 dollar mark, if ya’ll have any suggestions about location and/or housing developments. Also, if anyone could clue me in about the weather, that would be great. I currently live in California and I just have to say I hate the heat (it’s currently 105+). I think North Carolina gets really hot as well, but if anyone had suggestions on locations that may get a little less toasty, that would be wonderful!

Thanks for all your help and I hope everyone had a safe and happy fourth!

The Mountain Region of the state isn't as hot in the summer as the rest of the state. The average annual temperature at Southport on the lower coast is nearly as high as that of the interior of northern Florida, while the average on the summit of Mount Mitchell is lower than that of Buffalo, New York.

Pick an area to see the historical averages.

The best weather in NC can be found in the High Country region (Boone, Jefferson, Banner Elk, etc...). I'm sorry to say that within a 45 min. drive from Ft. Bragg, you're not going to find much variation in climate. Its all hot and muggy in the summer with generally mild winters.

Yep, if you want to be near Bragg, you'll have to deal with the summer heat big time. Fayetteville holds the state heat record at 110 degrees in August of 1983. July and August are normally in the 90s, everyday. Fayetteville is only around 240 feet above sea level and the highest point in Cumberland county is only 486 feet.

Given you need to be within 45 minutes of Ft. Bragg, your pretty much stuck with that climate, as anywhere with a milder climate is many hours away.

If you have to live near Fort Bragg, there is a difference in the climate 45 minutes south of Fort Bragg than 45 minutes northwest of Fort Bragg. The climate 45 minutes northwest of Fort Bragg is much milder in the summer than to the southeast of the area. Moreover, you will get significantly more snow northwest of Fort Bragg in the Piedmont region than you will living south or east of the base, which is in the coastal plain.
