Sayantsi hit the nail on the head!

I grew up in Greenville (my parents and in-laws still live there) and it really HAS changed a lot in the past couple of years. Arizona was my home for the past 5 years and every time we'd go back, we noticed new things everywhere (including the new park over the Reedy River Falls).

After living in Phoenix for 5 years though, I could never go back to living in G-vegas (as we nicknamed it) because it was too small for me. The Triangle seems to have more to offer in terms of stores, restaurants and jobs.

You can't get a true impression of Greenville, SC in a Raleigh forum. Its naturally going to be biased. Greenville is an oasis! Visit and you'll agree like many others that have visited. It holds it own against much larger cities.

Default Finally saw in person

Well, we finally got to see both places in person. Wow!! What a tough decision, both are so great. I do have to say that the pictures of downtown Greenville, SC are only a glimpse at the city's beauty. Lots of exciting projects.
We have decided to see where the best opportunities lie within his company, but really either is a win/win like everyone says

You might want to try asking this question in a South Carolina forum, people may know more about Greenville there. The majority for North Carolina will be reason due to question is asked in a North Carolina forum

Compared to Raleigh, Greenville is incredibly conservative town.
This was going to be my comment as well but I see that others have beat me to it. If politics are important to you, the two states offer a stark contrast to each other. Politically, SC is much more conservative than NC. If you are a very conservative person, you might like SC better. If you are a mainstream New Englander, it might not be your cup of tea. If you are a liberal New Englander, you probably won't like it.
While both states and metros are growing and changing, I think that it's safe to assume that there are far more Northerners in the Raleigh area than you will find in Greenville. Good thing? Bad thing?
Size is another issue that might tip you in one direction or the other. The Raleigh area is much larger. For comparison, Greenville Co. is less than half the population of Wake County though both counties are of very similar land sizes. Again, it's your call as to which is desirable.
A huge difference between the two cities is the fact that Raleigh is the state capital of its state which brings amenities that are found in a state capital: Museums, Arts, etc. As home to the state's largest university, Raleigh also anchors the higher education "hub" of the state. There is no other area in either state that offers 3 major universities. That impact on the Raleigh area is palatable.

It's true that SC as a whole is more conservative than NC and the Greenville area is conservative also, but the Columbia and Charleston areas are more moderate; Columbia in particular is a Democrat stronghold in the state. I know those areas aren't under consideration by the OP, but I just wanted to throw that info out there.

I think the point was that obviously, people reading the NC forum will know more about Raleigh, whereas to learn about Greenville firsthand, asking in the SC forum (as well) would probably get more Greenville-centric answers.
