Default Where is a safe town to stop on my drive up to NY in August?

Hello, hoping someone could provide me some information. I am not too familiar with North Carolina and would ideally like to stop by somewhere near the 95. I am considering Fayetteville but have read on here that the crime is high.

Any information would be appreaciated.

I 95 travels through eastern North Carolina and this area is about 80 percent rural along the route of I 95 and alot of towns within the interstate are also economically depressed or agricultural towns.
