Salisbury NC schools (elementary schools, to live, moving to)

I may be moving to Salisbury soon and wanted to know about the elementary schools in town. So far on the web I have not seen any highly-rated schools in this area. Can someone please tell me which ones are generally considered the best ( apart from the private schools )? My child is gifted and very creative. He really needs a challenging learning environment. Does anything like this exist in the area?

Did you ever get the info you needed on schools. We visited Salisbury a few weeks ago and fell in love with it. We didn't feel good about the test scores and that is really a priority since we have three girls under 5 yrs. that will be starting school soon. My husband teaches HS and Salisbury High looks great but my concern is with the elementary schools. We love downtown and want to live close. Would love to hear what you found out.

I grew up in Salisbury and a lot has changed. I do know that there is an extremely "rich" learning environment at the high school. For those on an academic track, they will be in great shape. Salisbury High (I was in the first class after consolidation) has a lot of resources and a lot of "patrons" in the Salibury area. Scores are lowered by a lot of non-academically inclinced kids, but if your children want to do well, they can do extremely well there.

Sorry I can't be of much help about elementary schools. The best thing to do is to visit them. I teach, as well, and talking with the principal for 20 minutes should give you the tone of the school very efficiently. If the principal cannot make time to talk with you...well that in itself is an answer.
