Default Moving to North Carolina.

Hello everybody!
My husband, my 2 daughters, 3 dogs & I would like some information on various towns in North Carolina and what direction we should be looking in. We are living in Long Island, NY now and well; actually forever. We would like to move in the next year and are narrowing it down to either Pennsylvania or North Carolina. We have visited PA many, many times; and although we love it, would probably rather be in North Carolina due to having family their and surrounding areas (although have more family in NY). We would like an area much different than Long Island; a lot quieter, and way less crowded. I would have one daughter a junior in high school. She's very smart and needs a school to meet these needs (In AP and honors classes). We would like a good public schools; but if necessary will have her in a private school. Doing research i'm also noticing Charter schools and such (Can anyone tell me about this?) Anyways, we would like a somewhat quiet, beautiful town that is close enough (an hour or so) to a city. My husband is in the Construction business.

I AM visiting an aunt in the Southern most part of Virginia and a sister in greensboro so will be looking in that area. However; can anyone make some recommendations as to where else we should look? I was originally set in the Raleigh area, particularly Holly Springs & Apex but really want to open up to any and all ideas. My sister recommended Greensboro, High Point and areas surrounding but i'm just not sure.

Anyway, this will be a short trip and we want to see as much as we can; so ideas as to where to look?

Thank you SO much!

i agree with Sunnykayak. the job is the first thing to look for and then try to find an area to live either in the same city/town or as close as possible.
since you have family in greensboro, you might actually like it there or go a little further east into Mebane, hillsboro, or chapel hill

His job is pretty versatile; he can truck drive, handy man, construction, masonry; as long as we're at least 45 minutes to a big city, we're fine. Anyways, we're leaving the day after tomorrow; so anymore suggestions?

Well, from Greensboro travel west toward Winston Salem and check it out, along with nearby Lewisville and Kernersville - these are known as nice family friendly areas. Your husband could potentially travel either to Winston Salem or Greensboro for work.

I would also like to suggest you travel a bit further west on I40 to see the great little town of Taylorsville (this would actually be my first choice for you). It is scenic because it is surrounded by the Brushy Mountains, which are really just big hills but very pretty. I've heard nothing but good things about the area and schools. Your husband would be within 45 minutes of the larger city of Statesville to look for jobs.

Have a safe trip and a good time looking around

[font=Verdana]You might want to add the Charlotte area to your short list. I relocated from MD to at town called Matthews and I love it. No regrets. Matthews is a very family oriented town. The surrounding areas are Indian Trail - Union County, Weddington, Providence, and Ballantyne. I am also real estate agent here, and would be happy to help you. As far as jobs go, banking and health care careers are big here and owing your own business. There is really so much more that I could say.

Just curious - did you ever make the move? I have the same issues/criteria...
