Default considering relocate from NJ to NC

My husband and myself are in the home building business. He is a contractor and I am Interior Designer. We owned our own (only been in NJ for 2 yrs.)custom residential home building business. The business was consuming us and decided to go work for others. We took jobs in NJ working for others. hasn't quite worked out the way we thought. Leaving NJ for reasons most others stated. We have 8 yr. old twins and are looking for good school system(would consider private school). we are considering the Charlotte area (north) my question is - would this be a good area for job market and schools?
Thanks in advance for any info.

I live in the Raleigh area in NC. I am not familiar with the Charlotte area in regards to the building industry but I wonder if they operate similar to the Raleigh area.
If your husband wants to work in the building industry in Charlotte, he probably needs to talk to large builders and then the smaller local builders to see how to get into the area as a builder. In the Raleigh area, we have the national builders and the local customer builders. The local custom builders mostly build in subdivisions which are created by developers. The developers are the ones that choose which builders will build in their subdivisions. The developers have a reputation to maintain and have to know that the builders in their subdivisions are doing a good job for the future owners.
Now, on the other hand, if you have the cash, you might be able to buy land and develop your own subdivision.

Good luck!!
