You might wanna check roanoake rapids, on I95 north of enfield and halifax. It is a nice community, with a big lake near by. Enfield is about 20 minutes from rocky mount. From raliegh, id say about a hour and a half or more.

We are looking to relocate to Enfield. I loved the town of Scotland Neck as well. The cashier said it was a great place to live as long as you had a job or a car. Downtown Enfield could be just cute, but the downtown strip is empty. I do not think it will take long for Halifax, Enfield to be revived. There is Carolina Crossroads just outside of Halifax- to be 750 acre entertainment park that is supposed to employ 12000 people (so I hear).

Carolina Crossroads is about 15 min from Enfield. We drove to Raleigh and it was about 1 hr and 10 min to the inter beltline. I also have heard rumors that University of North Carolina is putting a new campus in Rocky Mount (20 Min from Enfield). All of these things will bring jobs to the area and from what I hear that is very much needed...

I just hope that folks are excepting of outsiders there, everyone seemed kind when we were there???? Good luck, maybe we will meet up there!

Default Enfield, NC

Am looking to retire to North Carolina (possibly or SC). I am 58 years old and currently live in Southern California. Although our weather can't be beat, the costs for housing, etc. are out of line. I have about 250,000 in equity in my home and can go almost anywhere and pay cash for a home. Must be a large historic home and possibly bed and breakfast potential. Problem is most of the ones I find are in very small towns and being older I must have good medical facilities around as I am not getting younger. Saw the beautiful historic home in Enfield and price is right but the more I hear about Enfield, Halifax, etc. - it sounds like the towns are pathetic and going down hill. South Carolina is a possibility but the homes are higher and I would rather not have a mortgage. Since it is just me and my dogs I really am flexible about where to go. Larger towns in NC are a possibility but can I find what I want?? Is someone familiar with NC as far as university towns or college towns that I might look at? Usually medical facilities are quite good where the schools are.
