I just wanted to see if there were other Hispanics, meaning, educated middle class Latinos, who love this country and abide by their government and contribute to the well being of this nation. And although extremely proud of their culture, also proud to be US Citizens. What I'm trying to get across is that not all Hispanics are illegal or work in agriculture.

I totally agree with you, but unfortunately the news media rarely tells their story.

That should go without saying. If people presume otherwise, whose problem is that (whether one "looks" Mexican or otherwise)?

if you are not white or black, and have dark skin, than it appears that you must be mexican. i dont think this way, but most here do. it's really kind of disrespectful and ignorant.

There are hispanics in NC other than Mexicans, but they tend not to be immigrants, at least not recent immigrants. As pretty much said by everyone else on here, the majority of hispanics in NC are mexicans. And that's because the majority of them are either illegals or recent legal immigrants to the country. But there area also a significant number of puerto ricans and cubans who either immigrated first to New York or Florida (respectively) and then later moved to NC, or were actually born in NY or FL and ar citizens, and now live in NC. Also, there is a significant amount of mexicans who either first immigrated to or were born in Texas and the southwest and have moved to NC.

You have to listen to the alternative media not the drive-by media.

Well, I am Italian and I am often mistaken for being Mexican, so it goes both ways!! Hispanic really means anyone speaking Spanish, so if you aren't familiar with the culture, it is hard to differentiate between the Spanish speaking regions. I am in CA, so I can usually tell the difference between Mexican and other Hispanic nationalities. We have been around the culture longer than the south so it makes sense to me. Also it is really no different than what the Asian people most go through on a daily basis and they probably have it much worse. People always call someone from Japan, Chinese, etc. It isn't always ignorance, but more lack of exposure. I haven't been exposed much to the Asian culture, so I have difficulty determining where someone is from, but I am wise enough to know they aren't "Oriental" like a rug or food! When I am called Mexican, I just think if I lived on the East Coast like NY or NJ everyone would automatically know I am Italian because they are exposed to so many more than out west. There is ignorance everywhere, but sometimes I don't think it is intentional.

Montego Bay on W. Market St. in Greensboro serves Cuban and Caribbean food. I've never eaten there, so I can't say whether or not it's good.
Besides the usual (American, Chinese, Japanese, Italian & Mexican), Greensboro also as Brazilian, Thai, Greek, Cajun, Indian, Vietnamese, French and Korean restaurants.
