Default Cherryville, Bessemer City North Carolina

Considering relocation to Gaston County. Any info on what Cherryville and Bessemer City are like? General feel, etc? What is the best town to live in around Gastonia, in your opinion??

I was raised in Gaston County and am familiar with both towns.

Bessemer City is right at I-85 and housing is really inexpensive. But crime is a bit high for such a small town, the town's a little run down since the 80's, and the schools aren't very good.

Cherryville is a good 20-25 minutes to I-85. Other than that, it's a great little town. Nice, neat, and clean. Housing prices are low. Schools are good with a nice community feel. VERY safe. Has a rual feel, yet you're still technically in the Charlotte metro. I'd recommend Cherryville.

I lived in Gaston County for 15 years and I also know both areas very well. I now live out of state. My children attended Cherryville Elementary, Middle and High Schools. I found the town to be very elitist and overly confident of their ability to educate. My husband and I both have advanced degrees and found the city stifeling in her overconfidence in many areas. My two younger children are homeschooled. Cherryville may be "prettier" than Bessemer City but if you are looking for a hometown feel where everyone belongs...even those who were not born there, then Bessemer City is more warm and welcoming. If I were to move back to the area and had to choose between the two I would choose Bessemer City. I do not know when friendnc posted, but I think that the Cherryville "attitude" is evident.

Personally, I'd look at the Dallas area, particularly the area a little to the north. Very nice, quiet neighborhoods and only 10-15 minutes from Gastonia. Bessemer City does not have much and is pretty run down. Cherryville has a little more going on, but some of the areas are kind of iffy.

I've been looking in Kings Mountain (Cleveland County, but a little of it is in Gaston county) & have also looked in Cherryville & Lincolnton (Lincoln County). At this time, I prefer Kings Mountain.

There are some very nice houses in Cherryville & Lincolnton, but to me, they are more out of the way.

Probably the best location in Gaston County, at least in terms of convenience and general living standards, would be around the Four Points region on Hickory Grove Road. The neighborhood is average, but pretty safe and clean, and the folks are nice. Plus, and here's the beauty, you have central access to almost every major city in Gaston County... outside of the two you listed, really - Bessemer City and Cherryville. You've got quick access to Belmont, Mt. Holly, Gastonia, Cramerton, McAdenville, Spencer Mountain, Stanley, Lucia, Lowell, and Dallas. If you have to live in either Cherryville or Bessemer City, Cherryville is safer and cleaner, but more remote. Bessemer City is a bit run down, but closer to Gastonia and I-85 Access.

I live just west of High Shoals (Lincolnton address) and I am 15 minutes from Gastonia, 18 minutes from Hickory, 25 minutes from the Charlotte Airport, 10 minutes from Bessemer City/Stanley and 7-9 minutes from downtown Lincolnton.

I totally love the area I ended up in. We looked in Mt. Holly, Belmont, Stanley, Crowder's Mountain, Bessemer City and here.
