My husband and I were looking at cities in NC that have a big arts scene and are liberal, have beautiful outdoor scenery, nice weather, etc. and found that Asheville was probably the best choice but what i'm concerned about now is the job market in Asheville i hear it is not so great. My husband is an Audio Technician and i'm close to graduating with a bachelor's in Psychology. We currently live in Florida and the cost of living is very high compared to other states and our income low, but i hear Asheville has somewhat the same problem. Can someone please give us some advice we are clueless and frustrated and want to get out of Florida lol.
Thank you.

So, Deb, use the search feature and type in Asheville. You will come up with any threads of great information you can read all day long!
Basically, just to get you started - NC is a conservative state for the most part. There are pockets of liberal areas, but not many. Check out the Chapel Hill area as well as Asheville. Employment in Asheville is very tight unless you are experienced in the medical field or tourist service industry. It's worth a look to see what you find, but don't get your heart set on it.
Hey Deb,
Today is your lucky day.
My wife and I moved to the Charlotte area from the ever-famous and jobless State of Michigan a couple months ago. I am an electronic tech specializing in audio. We checked out the Ashville area just like you, and drove over there on one of our early trips down. It IS a beautiful area in the mountains and seems very appealing especially from an internet point of view but, we found very little in the way of job opportunity. It seems to be mostly a tourist town with businesses catering to visitors, many of which appear to be quite Grandfathered into the area and seem successful. It's a great place to visit, but finding employment there could be very difficult.
We traveled to Alaska two years ago with visions of staying but it was the same. Much tourist industry, few jobs, but absolutely beautiful.
My wife is a licensed and certified massage therapy instructor and found a great job at a community college near where we live here prior to moving from Michigan. She moved first, started her new job, and I followed after much packing, driving, and moving. I am finally a full-time resident here but in the 3 weeks of sending resume's out, attending job fairs and spending untold hours searching on-line, I am still a hobo. I'm confident that I'll find something but things are not quite as perfect as one would hope in terms of jobs.
There are many other things about living here that far surpass our expectations like the incredibly nice, friendly people. It is so refreshing to not deal with all the negativity anymore from Michigan, but it's also very important, should you move here, to become a trusted member of the community. For obvious reasons, people won't just automatically trust you. You must prove yourself and that will take some time. We are in that transition stage but, it's worth the effort.
Other things like taxes, insurance, and gas prices are much less. My car insurance rates dropped by $200 per year and gas prices are 30 to 40 cents per gallon less. Sales taxes are overall, a bit higher but property taxes are lower. The State in general, is a fairly well managed one with an infrastructure that seems to actually care about it's people.
My wife and I are happy here with no plan to ever leave.
I wish you the best and happiness wherever life takes you.
Jim
