Default Young Vermonter looking to relocate to Northeast NC

I'm currently living in Burlington, VT, and am looking for a city/town suitable for me, but am getting nowhere on my own. I'd rather be closer to the VA line, but doesn't have to be. I'm 22 and in need of a change of scenery, but I want to be close to any body of water where I can surf, tan.. etc..I want to be in a safe area with affordable rent that's close to bars/museums/colleges/shopping...an area with people my own age, basically. I live in a really safe state right now, and am moving away alone. I'm somewhat afraid of ending up in an unsafe area. I also cut hair, and would need to be in a place where there is a selection of hair salons, if possible without a HUGE commute

I looked around and noticed rent/mortgages are cheaper in NC, but would that mean wages/salaries are also quite a bit lower?

Any help would be great. Thanks!

I'm confused by this thread...you named it being interested in Northeast NC, but you put it in the Raleigh forum. Which are you trying to get info on?

I'll move it to the main NC forum. (The three subforums are for the three larger city areas.)
In the main NC Room, there are some folks in there from time to time from the Northeastern NC areas. They're more likely to find your thread and help you from there.

If later on you'd like info on Raleigh, feel free to start a post in there about it.
