My wife is from Jamaica...she's a bit worried as well about the lack of caribbean food there. I did a quick search and found a few restaraunts....now whether the food is authentic or not I dont know. It's not stopping us from moving thats for sure.

Charlotte has a fairly decent size Caribbean population. There is a social group of Caribbeans here (forget the name) that organizes an annual festival and they even have a Ms. Caribben Charlotte pagent (although I think they missed last year). We have several resturants. And you name it, they got it, Jerk (of course), Ox tail, Brown Stew, Roti, Ackee, rice & peas, patties, etc. Below are a few that I like, but this is not all we have...
Addie's Jamaican Cuisine, 3116 N Davidson St, Charlotte, NC 28205, 704-331-0047 (In the arts district area called NODA, NODA.org)
Anntony's Caribbean Café anntonys.com/ (Their food is good, but its not what you would call authentic.)
Austin's Caribbean Cuisine (Take out only), 345 S. Kings Drive, Charlotte, NC 28204, 704-331-8778 (The best in Charlotte in my opinion)
The Caribbean Hut, 9609 N Tryon St., Charlotte, 28262, (704) 593-0030
Golden Krust goldenkrustbakery.com/ (Yes, this is the chain out of NY, we have one here).
Jaimama Restaurant & Bar, 1626 East Blvd, Charlotte, 28203, (704) 358-8188 (This is an "upscale" Caribbean resturant, very nice and very nice location, its different).
Mama's Caribbean Grill, 1504 Central Ave, Charlotte, NC 28205, (704) 375-8414 (Very nice, with a funky location in the Central Ave. Plaza/Midwood district)
And there is also a Reggae club that's been around for a long time called Crystal on the Plaza, 3018 Plaza Rd, 28205, (704) 376-3799. The location is not that nice, but oh well.
Also our hip-hop station here plays Reggae every Sunday evening.

stay away from the carribean hut and golden crust. It's so bland. The Antony's is good but it's a little different from Jamacian. He's Guyanese (sorry about sp). Antony's is the best that I have found! There isn't much here.

my husband is jamaican and so are my parents. we are moving down from ct this summer and was a little worried about finding jamaican food. we were in cary a couple of weeks ago surprised to find a jamaican resturant right down the road from the hotel.
a couple of things i noticed though was the prices were very high ($2.25 for a pattie compared to $1.25 here) and the fry fish was more like fillet of fish. fry fish ain't fry fish to us without the head!! lol
anyway we will be near durham and hoping to find some good yardie food that we can at least cook ourselves.
i'm also used to a good dance til the wee hours, hoping to find that too!

Caribbean Hut's Food is not bland
Washingtonian got it wrong, Caribbean Hut's Food is not bland. Confusion is the best explanation. Caribbean Hut's Food is the best "Authentic" Caribbean Food in Charlotte, NC. Feel free to prove me wrong.

I think Caribbean Hut is pretty good. The best is Addie's in NoDa.
