I attempted the same feat. The only cottage rental are in the outer banks near Corolla that I found. VRBO rentals is the best becasue they are by owner and the admin. fee is 1/2 what Elan realty and others charge. When are you going? We are going 4/8 for a week. We live in upstate NY.

Good luck. Have you tried Hilton Auction and Reality or Cape Fear Reality. Those will be your best bets. two problems here. Not much to rent and it is either crappy or high for such a small town. We lucked out and rented from an individual. Our house is small and older, but in a nice neighborhood. Our rent is good too. but would have been higher through an agency. I would like a bigger home to rent, but since I want to be in a nice area and not pay 1000 a month, I am staying put for now.
