Fifteen counties in the state are attempting to increase local taxes on today's ballot.
Anson, Burke, Caswell, Cherokee, Chowan, Columbus, Guilford, Henderson, Hertford, Jones, Mitchell, Onslow and Person are seeking the sales tax option, while Polk and Tyrrell are pursuing the land transfer tax.

I just heard on NPR that they have projected that Kay Hagan has defeated Elizabeth Dole for her Senate seat.

Just watched Brian Williams on NBC examine NC county results for the presidential election. Looks like Wake County (Triangle Area) has gone blue by 14% with 95% of the polls reporting. Looks like Mecklenburg County has gone Blue as well.
County Breakdown as of 9:47pm

Wake County was pretty much an even split in the last presidential election. What with the voter migration from blue states of the northeast over the past four years, it was just a matter of time before Wake would become blue too.
Mecklenburg County was already blue in 2004.
