Sarasota, Fl retired married couple, moving in December, to NC. We are chasing our kids to NC...looking for places just north of Charlotte. Interested in Mooresville, Huntersville, Statesville, and any other "villes". We are driving up June 23 for a 'look see" for about 5 days....mostly looking for apartments and/or Condos. We want an established community, our age, and folks we can relate to. I love golf and would love to work part time in some golf course and play the rest of the time. Traffic won't be of concern...we are retired! I lived in Hawaii, 30 yrs, Denver 10 yrs, and Florida 10 yrs....so i have been around.....my final "nesting place" will be north of Charlotte and asking for views and help as to what town may fit our lifestyle.
We are loooking for a town that has folks our age, ( 60's )and want the "laid back" style of living.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks for reading this........Tom

Mooresville and Huntersville are transplant-oriented, Statesville not as much so; more working class locals. Though they do have a hot air balloon manufacturer there I did not know that until I was watching one of John Ratzenberger's shows http://www.fireflyballoons.net/welcome.html (broken link)

I did a simple google on retirement+huntersville north carolina+golf and came up with this link

If you cannot find something that really rings your bells take a look at traveling east to the Pinehurst/Southern Pines/Sanford area. This area is GOLF GOLF GOLF.

You might also check out the Clemmons (Winston-Salem area) eastern Davie county area. That's where Tanglewood is located, a park containing a championship golf course
http://www.co.forsyth.nc.us/tanglewo...odCourses.aspx

Nearby is the Bermuda Run Country Club where the Bing Crosby Classic ran for almost 20 years. Bermuda Run itself is now a gated community that recently incorporated into a town. It's a little on the upper crust end; it wasn't that long ago that the fence around the community was topped with barbwire It has expanded to encompass both sides of SR801 with commercial development across from the front entrance on hwy 158. It is right on I-40, with close access to Winston-Salem.
