Since many of them are used for power generation, they have good size lakes-reservoirs along their paths through the state.

The drought has improved since this was posted last year. However, winter is when there's the most water and least amount of drought. Has been for the last few years.

This is a cycle that happens in the south. Give them a hurricane and it'll help out....Not that I want a hurricane to come barreling through. It just seems that's the only way to get any real relief that's long standing at this point.

The drought in NC is NOTHING compared to Georgia. They are beyond desperate for water. They have major restrictions and have for a few years.

I'm really hoping there's relief this year. Like I said, I am not thrilled with a hurricane coming through, but if that's what it takes to help.....

It's getting a bit better, but we are still way behind.

I walk by a small stream every day when walking the dogs. For years it was always flowing. It has been completely dry for about 9 - 10 months now, flowing only after a rain of at least 0.5", (less than 0.25" of rain and no flow) only to dry up within 24 - 48 hours. This means that the ground water is severely depleted, and it is going to take more than normal rainfall to replenish it.
