Hey guys, I was wondering where I can find the laws on what is street legal for cars in NC. I mean in terms of modification to the exterior like lights and those things. I have recently bought a new car and I would like to customize it a bit but I definately want to keep it street legal.

I would imagine, you could do just about anything as long as the vehicle passes the state's annual inspection and is in compliance with federal vehicle regulations.

NC Inspection Manual - http://www.ncdot.org/dmv/vehicle_ser...nforcement.pdf

i know that there was some discussion on here within the last few months about tinted windows. i was considering that, just for the heat/sun and apparently NC is relatively restrictive about that. not sure if that applies to you.

Vehicles 35 years old, or older, are exempt from the North Carolina vehicle safety inspection.

If a vehicle is a model 1995 or older, it is exempt from having an emissions inspection.

It should also be noted that all vehicles registered in a non-emission testing county are also exempt from emissions inspection. Roughly half of the state's counties.

So Since I read nothing in the above regulations and inspections from NCGOV,there is nothing stated about under car lighting being illegal. Is this true?
