Can't wait. We will be in Asheville then Charlotte area and finally Raleigh area then heading down to South Carolina. I have my target areas pretty set and we have contacted a realtor. What I do need are some general ideas of things we could do/ see (when not looking at real estate etc.) and good family oriented places to eat. When in Asheville we are pretty set going white water river rafting then to some rock waterfall slide thing then to Chimney Rock and of course Biltmore. We are rather vague on other areas in the state (Raleigh,Charlotte) that would be must sees. Thanks so much for your help!

Your kids will enjoy Sliding Rock, if the mountain water isn't too cold.

Definitely visit Pisgah National Forest and Sliding Rook. There are also several waterfalls you can see while at Pisgah National Forest. Lake Lure is nice too.

You could visit Carl Sandburg's home too.

Sliding rock is great, especially if you have kids. You will really enjoy the Biltmore Estate, wine tasting for the adults. Even my Bud man hubby enjoyed the winery. Eats, Cracker Barrell, oohhh chicken n dumplings. NC has some great visitors centers. I have no idea where we were but we stopped in one asked if their were any covered bridges nearby that I could photograph and if they knew of any good places to eat. They told us where the bridge was and then you just take the road (2-lane hwy) until you hit 4 corners (one road crossed over the other, hence 4 corners). On the right will be a restaruant and that would be the place to eat. So we head on to the bridge and then headed to 4 corners. It was in the middle of no where, homes sparcely scattered around and we stopped in, sat in the rockers out front and it was family style buffet. It was one of the best meals we had and it was just a little hole in the wall. If you haven't eaten family style in NC, your really in for a treat, be really hungary and don't count calories (caluculators doesn't go that high)! Have a great time and please post when you get back.
