Renting first (Charlotte: sublease, apartment complex, rentals)

I have a question for those of you that sold your house and came to nc with no jobs. How did you rent a place? Did you have to sign a lease? Did you have to pay all the rent (for however many months) up front??

Also, for those of you that are renting for only a few months...how did you find your rental? Seems like everything I can find are 6-12 month leases.

I posted a listing on Charlotte's Craigslist. Many people need to leave their homes because of job relocation etc. I received over 4 responses already. Also, you can go to Charlotte Craigslist and see who needs to sublease etc. Some are 3 months to 6 months. If you want the information, I can PM you. I found a house with a 9 month rental with month to month.

There are so many rentals out there. Most of them say 1 year but when you ask most people are willing to do 6 months - 9 months. I went to rentclicks. com. They were not flexible. I also used Charlotte Craigslist, homerentalads.com, etc.


You will probably have to come up with your first month rent and one month deposit for regular rentals. The people on the craigslist didn't want a deposit. They just wanted to sublease. There is a 2B/2 bath apt for $780 and she is willing to leave furniture if needed.

My husband is working in Florida right now and we needed a place for him to stay until we can relocate. We didn't want to buy furniture and hook up utilities so we went with a vacation rental. It was furnished and included utilities. It also did not require a regular lease. They rent by the week, month, etc. The owner agreed to give us a multi month discount. We found that most people with vaction rentals were willing to give a multi month discount.

Vacation rentals may not be as popular there but there may be some. Try searching CyberRental. That is where we found our info.

Sometimes apartment complexs will offer corporate housing, or special deals for temporary relos, etc. Do a goggle search for properties with short term leases in the area you are moving.

Almost forgot, the advice about Craigslist is also good. I had looked on Craigslist too. I also found several possibilities on there while looking for a place for my DH.

We are staying with my brother and sister in law and enjoy their screened in porch. I may get a part time job at first because once we find our home I want to paint and unpack every single box and put everything where it belongs.

Some apartments in the area have what they call corporate apartments. You can rent these for really short periods of time. Now most of them will come furnished and they charge a bit more, but its worth it I think to be able to get out whenever.
