Overzealous expansion, fierce national fast food competition and the recession of the Carter years proved the undoing of the franchises. I believe that there are only 2 Whataburgers left, both in Cabarrus County, NC.[/quote]

Ther are many What-A-Burger restaraunts still in operation most in Kannapolis and Concord (I know of at least 4 in these two cities alone) but I know of ones in Mooresville, Mt pleasant as well.

Whataburger has 700 restuarants over the south and southwest - they have survived since 1950 when other chains like the Concord What A Burger haven't. It's great that there are still a few of them around for those of you in NC or Virginia who love them though. But for me, when I hear "Whataburger" I'm thinking of the big, successful chain from Texas and I sure wish they would expand into NC!!

These are really popular in Texas, where I'm from. I didn't know they were in NC too. They're pretty good, and they have great customer service (and great milkshakes lol).

Different chain. The Corpus Christi, Texas company doesn't have any restaurants in the state of North Carolina.

We've already been thru this earlier in the thread - the hamburger joints in Concord are the remaining few left over from the chain out of Virginia from years ago.

WHATABURGER is a chain just about as old that has continued to grow and now has 700 locations in the west/southwest.

These two are not the same, not even close.

I prefer WHATABURGER

Nah, ya'll got that wrong! The What-a-burger Chain in NC doesn't have any in Texas!

The one in Mooresville has been thriving for 40+ years on my family alone. Umhhhh! What-a-cheese and a cherry-lemon Sundrop. What-a-burger Jane would bring it to your car window.... man, the good ole' days.

By the way, for you regulars, What-a-burger Jane retired a few years ago.
