Default Overall PROPERTY taxes: SC Vs. NC?

I've read several threads concerning State tax rates in North Carolina. But what about Property taxes?

I know they vary ... but overall ... is is possible to comment on them?

Which state taxes per capita income highest? Sounds like NC does ... but someone else pointed out that because NC has higher income taxes, the taxes for your home may be lower.

Comments?

Property taxes in NC are local taxes. The tax rates are set by county and city governments, not the state. Some rates are high, while others are relatively low. Just depends where you live.

Example: County property tax rates:

Scotland County - 1.0200 per $100 of appraised value.
Carteret County - 0.2300

Overall, NC ranks 20th highest nationally according to The Tax Foundation. SC ranks 37th. Scroll down for 2008 rankings of all states.
