^Haha... I'm heading back sometime in January. I'll let you know how it goes. I do like the idea of going through Ohio without a Michigan license plate though - I swear half that state's income must come from ticketing Michigan drivers!

The taxpayers of NC thank you for using NC roads without paying for 2 years!

I've been paying my income and sales taxes and that's about it. Get over it.

You may be comfortable cheating the state of North Carolina, maybe that's the reason you moved, but I'm not comfortable with it and you better bet that if I knew your identity I'd drop a dime on you in a heartbeat.

I see lots of cars out here with diff state tags up front, usually Colorado or Oregon, some VT. Although those are usually on Subarus with rainbow stickers. Asheville Native knows what I'm talking about.

There were some earlier posts that NC required to turn in non used plates. I just got NEW NC plates to replace my OLD ones. There were no instructions that I seen that stated I needed to return the old ones. I just hanged them in the garage.
Given this discussion I just thought what a twist to this thread to put the OLD NC plates up front.

The problem arises when the DMV no longer has an insurance policy associated with the old tag number.

To avoid a future headache, return the plate to the DMV Vehicle Registration Section, Mail and Distribution Unit, 3148 Mail Service Center, 1100 New Bern Avenue, Raleigh, N.C. 27699-3148. If the plate has not expired, the owner should ask for a receipt.
