As someone who grew up in Durham, it's great! There is so much revitalization happening downtown with more to come. There are many jobs with Duke and RTP. There are a lot of apartments and housing to choose from and IMO, we have the nicest mall in the state. We are also the most diverse city in the state. It's also a short drive to Raleigh and Chapel Hill/Carrboro for even more to do. Here are some links from a previous posting of mine on Durham:

My address is Morrisville, IN Durham County. I do everything in Durham and Hillsborough. I grew up with a Hillsborough address IN Durham County, went to Durham schools, work in Durham, and vote in Durham. I moved in with my boyfriend who is renting here in the Brier Creek area so we could both save money. He is going to buy his first house in Durham or Hillsborough this spring. We have been looking at areas from downtown, to Bahama, to Hillsborough, and everything in between. He was born and raised in Cary and doesn't listen to all the BS many ignorant people say about Durham. I love Hillsborough too. They are so close to each other I can be happy in both. So really what is your point and what is people’s problem with Durham?

I only saw your original message, not the added "kidding" part. So the posting above is in reference to what I read and quoted.

You know what "people's" problem is with Durham. Think about who these "people" are that diss Durham. These are the same "people" that call Charlotte a "cesspool of crime and sin". It is what it is. I just ignore these "people" and understand that they are what they are; and they will feel safe where they choose to feel safe.
