Default What are the best places for a young couple to live in NC?

Places that have affordable apartments, diverse, broad job oppurtunities, nice shopping area and nightlife.

Jobs would be according to what you are qualified to do. I would suggest that you get the job before moving here.
Apartments will be more plentiful after a few more months and a lot of the banking people move out of the area. Should be lots of spaces left.
If you are planning on going out at night, I would suggest checking the crime rates in each town you are interested in. City-Data has much information on all of this.
Just click on the main City-Data.com and click on North Carolina and then you can check each town for the information desired.
There is much information on jobs in any particular area as well as the average rent cost in the area. You have come to the right place.
Do you like mountains, piedmont, sandhills or the coast. That would be a good place to start.
Places that came to mind when I read your post were Wilmington, Boone, Elizabeth City, or Asheville. Most people in this state are not into nightlife as much as some other places so I am suggesting more tourist-like places.

Great advice there.

Try looking in to Raleigh or Charlotte; they should have a lot of what you're looking for.

I think you would love living in Union County. It's just a short drive to Charlotte, and only a couple hours drive to the beaches or mountains. Charlotte has just about everything you could ever want and has NFL Football, NBA Basketball, NASCAR racing, great shopping and is only about 20 minutes away. Union County is the fastest growing county in NC, and still has a lot of wide open spaces and many new neighborhoods with large lot sizes. Many of it's residents are people like yourself who are new to the area. Jobs are still good in the Charlotte area, and home prices are still appreciating there, unlike most of the nation. It's a great place to live!

I would also say the Triangle area (not just Raleigh, but also Durham and Chapel Hill) and Charlotte. Those are going to be the best areas hands down for everything you're looking for.
