Dish TV
Hi,
I have been reading on the Raleigh forum about the TWC controversy and a lot of people have raved about Direct TV. I was just wondering if anyone out there has Dish TV. They seem to have the best package deal out there and before we change over, we were hoping for some input.
Thanks in advance and happy new year to you all.

I had it for years until my old oak grew too high and blocked the dish. I wasn't going to put it out in the middle of my front yard so I removed it.
Service was good. They had rate increases but they weren't as high and no were as often as TWC (or Charter out here). The only time I had signal problems was if it was raining or snowing hard, once in a while if the cloud cover was really bad the signal on some stations was spotty. Local stations weren't free and to get them I had to get approval by saying I was unable to get them using an antenna. Since I don't watch local anything it wasn't a huge loss, although that might have changed.
When I move and can get a signal again I'll put it all back up. I was happy with them.

I have DirecTV and enjoy it, no complaints. I like their interface more, and it seems to stay on all the time.

I've had both. I have DirecTV now. I didn't have a problem with Dish TV, when DH and I got married he brought his DirecTV with him. As for the comaprison, the signals seem to be fine, their formats are different but easy to learn. One bonus for DirecTV is if you use DVR it has two inputs, when I had Dish TV, if I was recording, I had to either watch what I was recording or the other tv had to watch it. For example, if I was watching CSI and recording Law & Order, my son couldn't watch what he wanted on his TV. It caused minor conflicts. That was also 4 years ago. They may have changes that format.... there was an upside though... no box required on the other tv and the other tv could watch DVR.

We had both Dish and Direct. Between the two, I will choose Direct over Dish anyday. With Dish we had our DVR thing go out twice in less than 2 weeks. We requested that they send someone out to check it out and see if something is going wrong and they refused to, twice. So we cancelled with them and went with Direct. I LOVED Direct and would still have them if it was not for a couple of trees in the yard. Until we move, we have to deal with TWC (GRRR!!).

We had the tree problem with Direct TV and called Dish to see if we could get reception from them. Their installer told us that their satellite sits a little bit lower in the sky. So if trees are an issue, DirecTV is the way to go. We cut down one tree (of the many recommended) and get good reception now, except in the pouring rain.

I have had both Directv and Dish and while I dislike all the sports stations on Directv I still would stay with Directv over Dish.
