Post Single puertorican mom moving from fl to nc

I am 32 and have a 13yr old son and my 11 yr old daughter. I have no family or friends in NC but am in need of a change of enviroment and have done research and I really believe I would love NC. I have asked around and some recommend Concord, Asheville or Gastonia but I just have no clue where to move to. I would like to live close to Charlotte. Is there a suburb that also has a little of the city feel to it? I just don't want the move to be extremely dramatic for my children since we currently live in a suburb of Tampa FL that has almost everything the city has to offer. I just need a change and am not aware which cities are safer for us but not too secluded either. Can anyone advise me on this? Thx

As part of your research, you may want to check websites that compare crime rates among cities. Asheville has a higher crime rate than Raleigh, I believe. Charlotte is pretty high, too. Good luck.

Just curious, what does being Puerto Rican have to do with it? Do you want to move to an area with mostly PR people?
