Hard to say without knowing why the light is on.

See 19A NCAC 03D .0532 BRAKES on page 39 of the Inspection Manual for brake-check items. It could be just a faulty indicator light.

Yes I think you will be fine, cars are not required to have operable ABS. If you go to Autozone or Advanced Auto Parts have them pull your codes (assuming you have an OBDII computer, most cars '96 on up do, and some earlier models have them too). They should be able to tell you exactly what code is flagging, and with some research online you can probably fix it. On my Volvo the ABS light goes on due to a faulty computer which is around $150 to replace yourself.

Also reading thru that document I found the brake inspection requirements on page 45. No mention of ABS.

Something funny though is that they don't even measure your brake lining, the only requirement is no metal on metal grinding. Wow. I guess it's true, inspections are a money source not an accident prevention system. What BS. So cars could potentially go a year without any brake pad left on them. Way to go NC! Idiots.

Yes you will pass but when my light went on in my car I had to Check the alternator output and battery charge, if it drops below a set voltage about 10 volts, those warnings will come on.
If not that, it is the brake switch. It is normally located under the Dash.
Get the switch from the dealer.
You can test the switch, but for 16 -20 bucks and having to get in there to remove it you might as well replace it. It takes about 30 minutes to install if you follow directions.

There are many things that would trigger an ABS light depending on the car. Just replacing things probably isn't the way to go.

OBDII should give a code narrowing the problem down to something more accurate than guesses.

I believe for that truck , you need only a safety inspection.
Which reminds me , I need to get my car inspected.
