I'm curious what the difference is between the various agencies in Law Enforcement, and what are their jurisdictions? For example, there are local police departments, city police departments, sheriff's departments, state police, and campus security departments.
Police departments have jurisdiction over their cities; deputies over their counties, including urban areas in their counties (Wake Deputies have jurisdiction in Raleigh, for example); Highway Patrol have state-wide jurisdiction; campus security have jurisdiction on their campuses and surrounding 1 mile radius.
