The title says it all. We love mountains, deep dark woods, mossy rocks, waterfalls, streams, wildlife, peace, quiet, stars and an idyllic lake setting. Don't care if it is populated or isolated. Looking for our life long "dream" residence. We don't have to be on the lake, just in the vicinity. My hubby wants at least 10 acres. I love to flower garden and someday would like horses. Any ideas appreciated!

I am posting this in several locations/states as part of our search. Thanks!

Fontana Lake...hands down.

You can only live on the south shore as the north shore is the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

The only issue with Lure is the touristy feel...which I guess is really only as you get closer to Chimney Rock. But I'd be willing to bet that property values go up the further away from Chimney you get.

See, to me, Lake Lure doesn't feel touristy, especially once you are off of the main drag thru "town". I really love it there, but it can be very cost prohibitive

Can't see you getting 10 acres for a reasonable price around Lake Lure . . .

I agree, but the OP didn't specify being price sensitive.

Though its a small lake, I find Lake Tahoma, NW of Marion, to be particularly idyllic. I seriously doubt you could find 10 acres lakefront, but I imagine some acreage is available nearby.
