Default Looking for a small town!

Hi, I currently live in MD with my husband and we are looking to move somewhere in NC. We don't have children yet, but hopefully will in the future, so we want a family-friendly place, maybe with other young couples. I would love to find a quaint, small town, preferably on the water (it doesn't matter if it's the ocean, a river, a lake, etc...i just love the water!). I want somewhere with very little crime and good public schools (or private schools if the public schools aren't good). Any ideas? Thanks!

Some of the communities around the Charlotte area around Lake Norman or Lake Wylie would be worth a look. Do you want to actually be on the water or a few miles away? That's important as to the price of home you'll get.
