Default Lake Boone Trail area

I've found a few apartment complexes that are in a descent price range, and that offer short term leases. They are off the loop at the Lake Boone Trail exit. Can anyone tell me about this area? Crime, race diversity, etc.

We are planning on taking a short term lease somewhere until we decide where we want to plant permanently...but I dont want to be stuck in the slums for even just 3 months either.

While each complex may be different, the overall area is good. West Raleigh is not a crime magnet by any imagination.
A bonus: with both a top-class hospital nearby and a firestation near that as well, you sure should feel at ease as far as those are concerned.

How is the area for my kids safety? Is it a place that I would allow my 13 year old ride his bike to the store?

I wouldn't, but I'm probably overprotective about stuff like that anyway. Are you looking at an apartment near Rex Hospital?

We are really just looking for temporary housing. We do not have jobs yet. We were planning on living off savings for a little while until our jobs are found. We do not want to make a permanent decsion on where to live or work until we are there and can make a first hand decsion...which in my opinion cant be made on a week long trip there either.

So we thought we'd find an apartment that would take a 3 month lease to give us time to scout jobs and a more permanent living situation. But also in the first couple months there we do not want to feel afraid to leave our apartment. A big reason for moving to NC is the weather! And we want to hang at the pool, take nice walks, ride our bikes, etc.

So does anyone have any suggestions for us?? We need 3 bedrooms, but prefer to have something that is a bit easy on the pocketbook. How does one find rental houses...or are they non-existant in Raleigh?
