So we had to rule out the house in Eastover as the owner has not fixed any faults in the home since he had it inspected. And there were some serious ones...
Now we are looking at the other side of Fort Bragg. Moore county seems to be really nice.
Can anyone give us some info on that area?
I know most of the posts here are about Fayetterville and the smaller towns around it or the larger cities. We just are not finding what we want in the east or north of Bragg.
Even though I have 4 months to move... I feel like time is running out.

Have you found an agent to work with? There are so many options north, south, east and west, that it would be hard to look on your own. I'm surprised you have not found anything around Fayetteville. There is a lot good good deals on existing new construction.

Here runs problems. We don't want a new popup house. We don't want a house that looks like every other house on the block and we don't want to be squished into a development.
Yes we have a realitor. But that doesn't mean that he will find our perfect home. We have specific needs/wants, one of them being property over an acre. We want a little space to stretch and not have neighbors looking into our bathroom. We also don't want gas/propane or a swimming pool. Almost everyone is selling a home with one or the other. That or it is a great home with no land or land we a trailer sitting on it. I also found the property taxes of cumberland county and fayetteville after I posted. I think I have been turned off of the area just by that. So it is really leading us to a different county and area.

Depends on the location within Cumberland county, but for City of Fayetteville residents:

Cumberland County - 0.8600
City of Fayetteville - 0.5300
Fayetteville MSD - 0.1000

Total - 1.4900 per $100 of assessed value. (Does not include Storm Water, Solid Waste, Pet Fees, Refuse Tax or Motor Vehicle Privilege Fees)

so a $100,000 home would have $1490 of property tax owed? How close to actual value are the assessments?

I've been to Moore county a few times, and the area seems pretty nice, but a lot of rich people live their.
If you look at some houses on the border of Moore county/Lee county you might be able to find what you're looking for.
I live in Lee County, and its also pretty nice.

$100,000 divided by 100 times 1.49 = $1,490

I would think assessed home values would be way out-of-date since the county only updates every 7 years. The next one should be 2010.

Cameron is a small town full of antique shops that sits a little ways out from the main hub of Moore County. It's a nice little town if you're looking for somewhere quiet and out in the country. There's not a lot there in the way of groceries and other shopping.

You might also want to check out the area between Aberdeen and Raeford, if you want some land with your home. And look into Raeford and other areas in Hoke County too. I don't know what the tax situation is like in Hoke County but from work I did there I can tell you that it's a growing county full of Ft Bragg commuters.

Check out homes in the 28311 zip. Hunters Ridge has non-cookie-cutter homes on big lots. Also Pine Valley has decent lots and pretty homes. Close to post and no city taxes. Good luck!
