Hi, I'm from Hawaii and my parents and I are going to visit my brother who's an Officer in the US Army in Fayetteville this coming July.

I was wondering if anyone knew of any "mom and pop" "hole in the wall" type of restaurants that serve good bbq, cornbread, fried catfish and greens in the Fayetteville area. The last time I visited my brother in Fayetteville in 1999, I didn't get to go out to eat until our whole family went to the outer banks area, and when we went out to eat, it was always fine dining continental cuisine. Something I can always get back here in Honolulu...

This time, I would like to know where the locals go for good tasting southern cuisine. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

Fred Chason's Grandsons, and The Sandpiper immediately come to mind. Even Cracker Barrel has good "country" food---my husband loves their fried catfish.

I agree with Sandpiper and Chasons Gandsons. Typical NC county buffet fare. Just don't after church on Sundays. The lines are around the corner.
