You appear very bitter about so many moving in that I am not going to continue to go back and forth with "hidden insults" Unless you have lived any place else like ny,nj, ca areas that all of us are in, you CANNOT understand the appeal to many of us- we all want a better life and what one considers better is a personal and unique to each and every one of us.

Not going to happen. Raleigh just nixed their plans for a light rail (in favor of the extreme almost Atlanta-style traffic).

I see that good old "southern hospitality" rearing its ugly head again.

Isn't there something said to the effect "Can't we all just get along!"

There is no such thing as Southern Hospitality when someone else is digging in your wallet.

Maybe every person that ever moved here should go back to where they came from. Then you can all go back to picking cotton and spittin tobacco.

You asked the question, not me. I gave you the reason it "wouldn't be nice".
If you want a mass transit system then do this. Start a blog to find those people in NC that want a mass-transit system. Once you think you have enough people then get a quote on the costs and divide by the number of people. Tell everyone how much and they will simply send you a check and you can get started.
Do you think it's reasonable for your neighbor to tell you to buy him a car so he can get to where he wants to go? Would you also be willing to pay for a special road for him to drive his new car on?
This is no different than making me pay more taxes so you can have transportation.
If you want to live in a better place than NY, NJ or CA then move to a better place, just don't try to change it into the place you wanted so much to leave.

Don't request like this void the whole "low taxes" reason for moving that people always list?

Dolt.
Before the northerners came down, it was raising the cotton, making it into textiles for clothes the northerners wore, and farming the tobacco that the northerners smoked. It was also crafting the fine furniture that the northerners put in their homes; furniture much nicer than a lot of the natives could ever afford. It was a hard-working life from the tales I've heard the natives tell, but they were proud of the products they produced. Only an idiot would sneer at that.
Getting back to the orginal subject. All the cities have mass transit systems, just pay attention for a second and you'll see the bus lines, the yammering for light rail, even the twee trolleys to give the tourists a thrill. A very small segment of the population use them, telling the city councils that the need isn't there. Pay further attention to individual companies, and you'll see that they are beginning to recognize the need for car pooling, more so since the gas prices have gone into orbit. The company I work for already has a small fleet of vans used by the employees. As for the rest of it .. it's already been said. People want their own vehicles to use according to their own whims.

I see your problem now. You have to spit the tobacco out, don't swallow it!
