Questions about moving to NC
I am currently living in Buffalo NY and will be moving to Knightdale, NC at the end of July. I am getting married in 2 weeks and my fiance and I are moving to Knightdale after the honeymoon where I have accepted a teaching job. I am looking for suggestions on a couple of things. We are looking for new doctors (physicians, optomistrists, dentist etc.) and would appreciate any suggestions. We are also into sports. I have played softball since I was little and myself or my future husband and i would like to join a softball team. I was looking at a place called REX, does anyone know anything about this place? Any suggestions will help. Thanks Lisa

There's a Rex in Robeson County on Highway 20 between St. Pauls and Lumber Bridge. Rex is 90 miles from Knightdale.
As far as healthcare professionals, your healthcare insurance provider should be able to provide you with a list of their network providers in your specific area.

Ummm...there is a hospital in North Raleigh...near the Flea Market at the NC state fairgrounds called Rex Hospital. Could that be it? Vicki

Yeah, the hospital is the only REX that I know of. The only other suggestion I would give you is based on my persnal opinion and is probably not what you would want to hear. Stay in Buffalo. (I'm from WNY as well, and like it better, eventhough I know that's not very terribly common)

You're from WNY, small world. Why would you say to stay here?

I am only going back for personal reasons. I don't expect anyone to stay there if they don't have a job. If they have a job AND close knit family (like I did). I would suggest staying there because the warmer weather is the only thing you'd be moving to, and personally, it doesn't seem worth it. Buffalo and Rochester are affordable, famiily oriented, and if you have a job, two of the best areas to live in. The problem is if you don't have a job, they are harder to come by. I was a contractor in Rochester..... where construction has boomed the past 3 years (although it's booming here too, in a much larger way). I know for many people all of their family has already moved away so they have no reason to stay, but if your family is still there, and you are close, AND you have a decent job. Then yes, my advice would be to stay. Otherwise, come visit here and see if you like it.

Well if you're gonna be in Knightdale, I wouldn't drive all the way to Rex for medical stuff. Especially when WakeMed Hospital (and the many medical offices around it) is in Eastern Raleigh, just a quick drive down the US 64 Business.

Any other suggestions about any doctors offices that could be recommended? Also, are there any softball leagues around there?

I lived in Raleigh when I was bery young. I have lived in the Buffalo area for many years now. I do have family in Buffalo and it will be difficult to leave but it is the work issue. It is very difficult to find work in the Buffalo area exspecially as a teacher because it is so competitive. There are so many people looking for teaching jobs and not many job openings. My father will be in the Eastern side of NC so that won't be so bad. So we are moving for weather and jobs. I am also getting married in 2 weeks so it will be like a new start on our own. When I have visited it everyone seems so friendly and we just loved it. I guess our plan is to move for a year or two and if we don't like it we can always move bad and then I will have experience so getting a job might not be as hard.

That's really funny that you mention that. My wife was in a softball league in Rochester. I'm not sure if they have any here. I'd imagine they have something.
