lol... i kind of feel like this sex offender thing is getting overblown. there's the same percent of the population give or take in nearly every place, except maybe alaska where all the crazies move ;-) but just because they made a registry now, everyone gets all freaked out. i think it's a good tool, like i wouldn't move my kids into a house next to a child molester, but to be saying don't move to NC, i saw a story on cnn that said they have sex offenders... c'mon...

Hey, aren't there laws against coming on a message board and making incredibly stupid posts? Where's the Dumb Poster Registry?

They're not spending time tracking them down, the websites (both facebook and Myspace) are trying to find ways to develop new programs that will keep them off the sites with better identity verification measures.
offenders on social networking sites is not a new issue. Last month, Newsweek magazine reported that Facebook said it had removed 5,585 convicted sex offenders from its site between May 2008 and January 2009. MySpace also announced it had removed 90,000 sex offenders in a two-year period, the magazine said.

Instead of patting yourselves on the backs for what you to believe a job well done, why not look at the amount of S.O. in your immediate area in the North Carolina Offender Registry. Unfortunately, the number of S.O. in the Triangle area and the incredibly large child population in the area will rub parents wrong. Is the topic overblown? That really is up to you - but if your kid got violated maybe your opinion would change.
I have no interest in winning an argument or wish to become king of the message board (quite frankly I hardly visit anymore). My only interest is in sharing this information (primarily for future transplants) who used this board as an informational source (like I did).
I'm not a real estate agent (like many on this board) so I don't have a reason to pump sunshine up your arse. It's a great place but this is certainly one of it's drawbacks.

I've always wondered why sex offenders are tracked but not, say violent criminals or arsonists? I'd be more concerned living next door to a convicted arsonist than someone who got arrested for mooning.

Fair enough, but be sure to share the info to anyone thinking of relocating TO New York that there are more sex offenders there than in NC...
In fact, there are more sex offenders in EVERY state in the Northeast than there are in NC...
Again, whats your point??
You make it sound like a drawback that NC has FEWER sex offenders than the majority of states folks are relocating here from...
Good luck with all those SO's in New York though, really

This is a Raleigh board ... not a NY board so I don't see a need to 'be fair' and warn New Yorkers. But if you are this insecure and need to feel superior - please blast away in the NY board (actually hit the entire Northeast while you are at it) and tell them about their sex offenders and your victory in S.O. race.
What's my point? There are a lot of sex offenders in this immediate area. I really could care less that NC has more or less as a state than any other state. It has much more to do with this immediate area that I am truly concerned about. Is it a reason to leave or not come - no. It's just something to aware of and something to pay extra attention to as a parent. That is all.

NYer, just to clarify why we might have misunderstood your intent...this is the NC forum, not the Raleigh forum! Your original post does not mention Raleigh at all, but it does mention NC several times. So it appears you were saying that NC has a major problem with SO's, when clearly it does not when compared to many other states.
If you were commenting on your particular street, neighborhood, or city, fine--maybe it is a "hotbed" worth warning others about. But to say the entire state is a hotbed is a bit of a stretch, don't you think?

Your post was moved from the Triangle subforum because you gave NO indication that this was something specific to the Raleigh area you were trying to get across. (Though for the life of me I don't get your point.)
It was moved to the General NC forum by a mod (they are the only ones that can do this) because you were trashing the entire state with your post.
