Sex Offenders
I've discussed this topic on the forum before and of course it put many into a defensive mode instead of a reality mode. Now that I live here (and do very much like it here), I want to make sure that all future transplants (and others) are aware this area (for whatever reason) is a sex offender hot bed.
N.C. officials: 2,116 of state's sex offenders found on MySpace - CNN.com
Typical responses will be the state has strict policies therefore higher numbers, 17 year olds having sex with 18 year olds, same everywhere else in the country, etc. Sorry - it's not the case. Numbers here are off the charts and new offenses are listed in the paper on a seemingly weekly basis.
Please be sure to check the sex offender registry and sign up to receive emails so you can view the face of the freaks that live/move close to you
North Carolina Offender Registry
Great place to live - definitely. Lots of sex offenders - you bet.

Here you go....
You'll be happy to note the state you relocated from has more registered sex offenders per capita than NC...
You're welcome....

Really not much of an argument, ya think?
The OP stated (incorrectly) that NC was a "hotbed" for sex offenders, when in fact NC isn't even in the top 10....and NY is higher on the list than NC.
If it was an argument, I'm afraid its already over, but please pass the popcorn anyway

Kudos to Roy Cooper! His daughter is in my daughter's 8th grade class. He's a great guy who is trying to do something positive and proactive. I'm glad he's acknowledged there is a problem and is trying to do something about it.

Facebook and MySpace are for losers, as evidenced by the story above. But I digress.
So now NC has this info and is sharing the identities of the 2,116 with local Sheriffs. Now what? Well, now they have to track all their movements on these lame sites. How many people will that take? How much will that cost? They have to do this now because if something bad were to happen, heaven forbid, and the state has acknowledged there is a possible threat and did nothing, there would be a huge lawsuit. This seems to be a bad precedence. Bullets are cheap. But I do like Texas's parole conditions on not allowing them to create profiles, though aliases are easy to make, obviously.
And an FYI, not all sex offenders are violent, child abusing, types. At the last placed I lived I ran the search to find the offenders. Up came the 18 year old that mooned someone and the Granny that flashed her sagging fun-bags outside a bar. Granny causing PTSD, that's the real crime.
