Where did you come from? Why?
I'm sure this has been mentioned before....but where in NC did you move to? Where did you come from? Why did you move? What do you like most about it?
I came from Greenville, SC to Raleigh (I've moved around quite a bit) - presently back and forth between both cities. I had a great job offer in the Triangle I couldn't refuse but lost several months back, but am working in Greenville and commuting weekends to see wife and kids until school is out. I LOVE NC (much more than Greenville) because of the many different nationalities, large cities, optimism, friendly people, beach at one end, mountains at the other, temperate climate, etc. And fairly affordable. I hate it when I have to leave.
Discuss. Look forward to your answers.

We don't live in NC anymore, but we originally had moved to NC from South Carolina. We didn't get to live there long because we got transfered for my husbands job out of state again. However, for the most part, we liked it. We lived in the Raleigh area. I was a little shocked at how evident and high the crime was (especially around the Capital Blvd area..I never felt safe) but overall it was a gorgeous city and I would consider moving back. I've heard that it's really cleaned up since we left.
What I liked most about Raleigh was that there was a lot to do! I loved all the shopping centers, things for our kids to do, etc. There was always something to do. And, it was affordable.

West Monroe, LA
Albuquerque, NM
Pittsburgh, PA
Houston, TX
Dunedin, FL (Tampa area)
Winter Park, FL (Orlando area)
Arlington, TX (Dallas area, two moves)
Monroe, LA (three moves) - All prior moves with parents/family, job related
Santa Clara, CA - Moved following college
San Jose, CA
Cary, NC - Had a family, moved to NC with job for cost of living

We like it here quite a bit, have made many friends, and have gotten very involved in local community and government... much more so than were easily able to do back in CA.

Moved here from Oregon in 2005...wanted something different; had a job offer so we took the leap. Of the places I've lived, I like NC second only to San Diego.
And when I originally saw the thread title, I though it sounded like my 8 year old daughter asking where babies come from.

Moved to Johnston County. Haven't decided on a permanent location yet.
Just a stone's throw from the Detroit border (west side).
EMPLOYMENT--Teaching
So far we love everything....

I came here well before the Money magazine article touting it as the best place to live was published. A news director at the TV station where I once worked said to me, at a party, that he would go to Raleigh if he had a chance. It was sort of like in The Graduate when someone whispered, "Plastics." It was instead, "Raleigh."
I moved because a lucrative five-year employment contract had ended, and a mini-recession had hit Rochester. I needed a job.
I put an ad in the N&O paper that said "INSTRUCTIONAL DESIGNER AVAILABLE FOR HIRE" with the dates I'd be visiting for interviews and a few qualifications. Very cheeky. The woman at the N&O classifieds tried her best to talk me out of the ad, and she said that only housekeepers put ads in the paper like that. She said it was a waste of $89.
That Sunday, a consultant with a major employer was reading the ad in his family room. He had been told by his major employer to go find two other consultants to finish a project. He had one consultant and needed another, and he could barely believe his eyes when he saw my ad. He called me up, and we arranged an interview -- in his family room.
At the interview, I walked into his house and took off my coat. He had Rush Limbaugh on the radio. I pretended to listen to it for a moment, and then I said, "I'm so sorry. This isn't going to work out. I can't work with anyone who listens to Rush Limbaugh!" And I turned around, and he was almost on the floor, laughing so hard. I knew then that we'd get along fine. And we did. He hired me, and that was my first job here.
He retired and moved to Florida, but we still keep in touch.
It was a good investment of my $89.
