Sounds like what CT went through from the '80s onward. It's stabilized a bit, but I'm not sure it will ever be able to really recover.

I hope you realize NC's economy is among the worst in the US, as well (though nothing is as bad as Michigan, of course). If you're going to move to somewhere you know absolutely nothing about, you might as well pick somewhere that there are actually jobs, such as Texas or Maryland? This forum is full of stories of people who moved to NC with no job and eventually had to move away after two years of finding nothing. Always, always best to find a job BEFORE moving somewhere.
