Default Iredell County? Mooresville MS and HS?

Can anyone tell me anything about Mooresville? My husband and I may be relocating to Charlotte area. He'd be working in uptown (near I-77 and I-85)adn we'd like to keep his commute time (IN RUSH HOUR) to 30 minutes or less. Is this even doable? Does Mooresville have nice schools, a small-town feel, friendly neighborhoods with young families (we have a 2-year-old), low crime, a fair amount of shopping (WalMart, Lowes, etc.)? Any advice you can offer on Mooresville or any suggestions for other areas that fit this commute time (during rush hour) and other above-mentioned criteria would be appreciated. THanks.

Kyra

I would say a 45 minute commute is probably more the norm from Mooresville to uptown. It's not that far distance-wise, but there are so many people moving there that the traffic is pretty heavy coming in from that way. In addition, you have other people getting on I-77 from the heavily developed Cornelius/Davidson/Huntersville exits so that adds to the traffic.

Mooresville has some of the most desireable schools around, and that's one reason so many people are moving there. I wouldn't say it has much of a small town feel anymore, but there is plenty of shopping, good neighborhoods, and there are never reports of any serious crimes coming out of Mooresville.

Hope this helps!

We're moving to Mooresville in August. When searching for a place to live last summer, we went to the chamber of commerce/city hall of the various towns we were interested in. They were a wealth of info & very helpful. With a son entering HS this year, we narrowed our search to Mooresville & are very happy with our decision. The schools in Iredell county are very good (from what we heard & learned, Mecklenberg schools have alot of problems). We settled on a subdivision east of I77 & within the city limits. It's really nice, open & farms all around us. There's tons of housing available in every price range with lots of ameneties like pools & playgrounds.

We took a tour of Mooresville HS & were happy with what we saw. Clean halls, respectful children, students in their classrooms & not roaming the halls, teachers teaching & having full control of ther students & a happy, noisy lunchroom. My brother, who is a Catholic HS principal in NY, told us what to look for. He checked out the course registration handbook & was quite impressed with the curriculum & "extras" offered. More importantly, my son was very comfortable there. When we go down there in 2 wks, we have an appt to meet with the counselor for registration. I know 2 girls from Long Island that live on the Lake Norman side of I77 that have younger kids. They love it there & are happy with the schools.

Shopping is plentiful in Mooresville & the surrounding towns (way more than I have here in Putnam county!) My subdivision is on rte 3 & I'm about 5-7 miles from I77. Stores that you're familiar with in NY are here, like Walmart, Kohl's, Target, BJ's Wholesale, Dunkin Donuts, Michael's, Lowe's, Staples, Blockbuster, etc...(& that's all at & near the I77-rte 150 intersection) They just opened a new mall a few exits south on I77. I haven't been there yet, but I heard there's a Macy's there. From my house to the Concord Mills Mall, taking the back roads, it's about a 20-25 min. drive. There's plenty to offer down there!

Hope this helps Kyra!!

Rosann

This sums it up pretty well. There is also a WalMart and a Lowes plus MANY other shopping areas around the main exit of Mooresville
